Up, up, and away!

I guess I was expecting this to be a more uplifting movie given its title but I was kinda depressed from beginning to end. It was really sad that Ellie never got to go on her big adventure and I blame Carl for it because he “crossed his heart”.
Ok, ok, he did try to make good on his promise towards the end of her life but it was just too late. I love the fact that she asked him to go on his new adventure when she knew she couldn’t make it anymore.

So although this is an animated movie with talking dogs and strange birds, houses that fly up in balloons and kids that can go off on an adventure without having to worry about a concerned parent, the emotions are more real than in any “realistic” movie I’ve seen and even the storyline rings very true. All this, in an imaginary world that makes us re-think what is important and not to put off our dreams.
