The power of a smile

It was a cold winter when I visited an old couple in Mutianyu, Beijing but the warmth of the owners made me feel comfortable immediately.  The retired couple lead a simple and contented life and the short encounter made me realise that happiness isn’t as complicated as cityfolk tend to make it.

They smiled profusely when I thanked them for the hot cup of tea, genuinely happy that they were helping me warm up before I face the freezing winds again.

We waved each other goodbye as if we were family.
